PUBLISHGING BY THE RNB MISTRESS

Hello Everyone

Let me give you a brief introduce of myself........

My name is Ruth aka RnBMistress, I am a singer/songwriter/music publisher. Writing in the genre's of rnb/jazz aka neo-soul, soul/funk, uptempo rnb dance tunes and a lil bit of rnb/hip hop. If you have any questions about music publishing let me know and I will try and be brief as and to the point as much as I possibly can. I will post up some information on the subject of music publishing for you all, right here.

A lot of people do not know this, but music publishing is one of the most lucrative areas in the music business. Music publishing is also a very complex subject and you wont learn it in just one or two day, It take will take some time to soak it all in.

There is so much to music publishing that some would rather give up some of their publishing rights to a music publisher to do the work for them. Some would rather hire someone like Harry Fox Agency, or hire an administrator to do all the paper work for them, for a percentage of course.

If your like me "an Independent self-music publisher" you will be doing all the work, and you will be wearing all the hats that are associated within' a music publishing company.

There are many languages one will have to learn being a music publisher, such as Intellectual property, Work 4 hire, Registration of Copyrights, royalities, mechanical licensing, transcription licensing, synchronization licensing, controlled composition, Foreign publishing, there is so much more.

Since music publishing is a complex subject the best way to start is to learn the basics of the music publishing business. Let's first start off with.........

What a music publisher?

A publisher of popular music, commonly called a music publisher, deals in the marketing and commercial exploitation of songs and music catalogs.

In other words they exploit and pitch the songs in your catalogs to different venues (i.e. Artists, Record labels, Music producers, Commercials, Film, Movies, Ringtones, Clubs, etc.) to generate money for the songwriters who are assign to their publishing company, and also to genre money for themselves.
In this way "you" as the "writer" can continue to be creative in writing songs, instead of having to worry about getting your songs placed.

A music publisher must have good connections and have a good reputable relationship with the people within' the music business.

I am going to stop right here and let you soak this in, because as I mention before, music publishing is a complext subject and it will take more than a day to learn it.

Next I will be posting what a music publisher are.
You can also check out my ning site on the music business and look under the group of "music publishing" and "songwriting" to read more on this subject.
